South Coast police agencies are looking for a suspect after a Brookings man was shot after an attempt to stop a car burglary.

According to a Curry County Sheriff's Office press release, at about 7:15 p.m. Thursday, the Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from the Fifth Street Medical Center in Brookings, reporting a man with a gunshot wound to the leg was at the facility.

Officers and emergency personnel arrived at the medical center and Wayne L. Cramer, 27, of Brookings, was taken to Curry General Hospital for treatment. He was in stable condition this morning, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police said Cramer and Chason G. Pope, 16, had returned to their vehicle from the South Coast Shopping Center and found a man in the car removing the stereo system. The suspect got into a Ford F150 pickup truck and sped away, the press release said.

Cramer and Pope followed the pickup truck to the Peavine Ridge area and spoke to the driver, who pulled out a gun and shot Cramer in the leg.

Deputies investigated the incident and found a bullet casing at the Peavine Ridge. The casing was matched to a bullet removed from Cramer's leg, police said.

Deputies were unable to locate the suspected driver of the pickup truck, Joshua A. Bond, 18, of Harbor. A warrant has been issued for Bond's arrest, charging attempted murder, first-degree assault, first-degree theft and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle.

Law enforcement officials consider Bond to be armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on his whereabouts or spotting a late 1980s model light blue Ford F150 pickup truck is encouraged to call 911 immediately.

Rewards for information leading to the arrest of Bond are possible through the Curry County Crime Stoppers program.
