South Coast readers often have different preferences in reading material than those in other parts of the state and United States. Here are the top-five sellers this week at Winter River Books in Bandon, according to owner Johnna Hickox:

“The Lavender Lady Cooks” by local author Sherri Merritt grabs the No. 1 spot with its mouth-watering recipes.

“The Memory Keeper's Daughter” by Kim Edwards is a must-read poignant story of a family torn apart by its father's heart-wrenching decision.

“Water for Elephants” by Sara Gruen makes the early days of the circus seem so vivid you can almost smell the sawdust.

“A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini, author of the runaway bestseller, “Kite Runner,” triumphs in this disturbing but nonetheless beautiful story of Afghanistan and two women who together survive cruelty and abuse.

“Middlesex” by Jeffrey Eugenides gains a resurgence in popularity thanks to being the latest Oprah pick.
