The Coquille Indian Tribe is continuing its support of youth golf this summer, with hopes of serving 150 kids at its annual free golf clinic and sending up to 16 of the older participants to a golf camp.
The youth clinic will be held at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort on July 19.
Meanwhile, spots are still open for a fundraiser golf tournament scheduled for July 21 at Coos Country Club that will pay for the youth clinic and camp scholarships.
The tribe has organized the youth clinic for several years. This year's event runs from 1 to 5 p.m. on July 19 at the Bandon Dunes Practice Center.
The clinic for students ages 7 to 11 will run from 2:45 to 4:45 p.m. The event for students from 12 to 18 years old starts at 1 p.m. and runs to 4:45 p.m., and includes the players golfing on the practice center's par-3 course at 3 p.m. Registration starts at 12:30 p.m. for the older students and 2:30 for the younger kids.
A motivational speaker will address both age groups and groups will be divided into stations to work on short game, putting and full-swing skills.
Only people who participate in the clinic will be eligible for scholarships to the golf camp, which will be at a date not yet announced. The number of scholarships will depend on how much money is raised at the fundraiser tournament.
A number of team spaces still are available for the tournament. The entry fee is $125 per person or $475 per four-member team. That fee includes green fees, use of a golf cart, range balls, a breakfast and an awards dinner.
The tournament at Coos Country Club will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. on July 21. It will be followed by the awards banquet, which will include prizes, to be held that afternoon in the Salmon Room at The Mill Casino-Hotel.
For more information about the golf clinic or the tournament, those interested can contact Danny Klassman or Jane Metcalf in the Coquille Indian Tribe Community Center at 888-9494. The tournament entry deadline is July 17.
