PORTLAND (AP) - A Klamath Falls soldier died in Baghdad, not as a result of combat, the Oregon National Guard said Tuesday.
The Guard identified him as 23-year-old Spc. Dominic Rodriguez, a graduate of Klamath Union High School and captain of the high school football team.
He died Friday, the Guard said. No details about the cause of death were available. The Guard said an investigation is under way.
Rodriguez had been in Iraq since October, assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division from Fort Hood, Texas, the Guard said.
It was the second recent report of an Oregon soldier's death in Iraq unrelated to combat. The Defense Department said Monday that Spc. Joseph P. Kenny, 20, of Veneta had died Saturday in Mosul. |
