Richard and Virginia (Lance) Roush will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this month. They were married June 23, 1957, in Clatskanie. The following month, Richard was drafted into the U.S. Army and taught in the Signal Corps at Fort Gordon, Ga. The couple returned to Myrtle Point, where Richard worked in the family auto parts business and Virginia taught sixth grade at Myrtle Crest School.
After Richard graduated from Southern Oregon College in Ashland, the couple taught school for the Government of American Samoa, where daughter Linda was born.
During the following years, they lived in Medford and Lafayette, La., coming to teach in North Bend in 1969. Richard quit teaching in 1978 to go into business and Virginia continued to teach at Hillcrest School until retiring in 1996.
The couple's daughter, Linda, and grandchildren, Steve and Erin McGrew, are hosting a reception for them in the dining room of Wanda's Food and Beverage House, 740 Koosbay Blvd., from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 23. |
