OCCI offers cooking camp for students

Thursday, June 21, 2007 |
The Oregon Coast Culinary Institute at Southwestern Oregon Community College is offering high school students interested in culinary careers an opportunity to sharpen their skills this summer.
“Cookin' up a Storm” is an intensive culinary camp which gives students the opportunity to work alongside OCCI chef instructors, learn basic culinary skills and prepare a fantastic meal.
The day camp is for high school students 16 and older interested in exploring careers in the culinary and hospitality industries.
OCCI provides these students a learning environment that will assist them in making an informed decision about attending culinary school.
The program includes sanitation, knife skills, introductory baking and preparing basic meals. Students also will take a tour of campus, watch a cooking demonstration with a certified chef and interact with current OCCI students.
Camp sessions are scheduled from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. on July 17 through 18 at OCCI, 1988 Newmark Ave., in Coos Bay.
There is a limit of 20 students and the cost to attend is $50 per person.
The deadline to apply for the camp is June 30.
For more information, those interested can call OCCI Student Services Representative Jamie Peck at 888-7195.
