Crashes send residents to area hospitals

Bandon
Two people were injured in a crash near Bandon on Wednesday morning, when a car traveling north on U.S. Highway 101 near Bandon collided with a vehicle attempting to turn onto the highway from an adjacent road.
According to the Oregon State Police press release, at about 8:15 a.m., a Honda passenger car was northbound on Highway 101 near milepost 256, when a four-door Geo Metro turned onto the roadway from West Randolph Lane and collided with the Honda.
The driver of the Honda, Eve M. Rooklidge, 43, and a passenger, Lloyd Hass, 57, both of Port Orford, were taken to Southern Coos General Hospital in Bandon with minor injuries. Both were treated and released.
The driver of the Geo, Sarah L. Sands, 19, of Bandon, was not injured, OSP said. Sands was warned for failure to obey a traffic control device.
Highway 42
A tractor-trailer collided with a smaller vehicle on Monday while driving through a construction zone on Highway 42.
According to an Oregon State Police press release, at approximately 8:40 a.m., the LTM tractor-trailer, which was hauling asphalt, turned left at Davis Slough and was traveling slowly in the left lane with its four-way flashers on. A Nissan pickup, driven by Dexter A. Trimnell, 42, of Coos Bay, was following in the right lane.
The driver of the LTM vehicle, Gary R. Knight Jr. of Coos Bay, 46, began to merge right, intending to position for a wide left turn. Police said Trimnell thought the commercial vehicle was yielding and attempted to pass on the left. The tractor-trailer then swung into the left lane and the pickup collided with the trailer, causing extensive damage to the Nissan. Neither man was injured.
Coos Bay
A Coos Bay man was hurt on Wednesday after his vehicle veered off of Cape Arago Highway.
According to an Oregon State Police press release, at approximately 3:52 p.m., a 1995 GMC pickup truck heading south on the highway near milepost 5.9, drove onto the shoulder of the road, slammed through a telephone pole, and headed down an embankment before coming to rest in the brush. Driver Walter W. Caraway, 77, of Coos Bay, was taken to Bay Area Hospital. A nursing supervisor said he was in good condition Thursday morning.
Winchester Bay
Two vehicles crashed on Wednesday while waiting to pass a construction site on U.S. Highway 101.
According to an Oregon State Police press release, at approximately 9:43 a.m., a Chevrolet Caprice was stopped in a line of traffic for construction, near milepost 216, when it was hit from behind by a 1992 Chrysler, driven by Tina Marie Charon, 47, of Idlewyld Park. The Chevrolet, operated by Terry L. Brown, 55, of Coos Bay, then traveled about 300 yards downhill before being able to stop. Both of Charon's passengers, Nesta R. and Charles L. Beecroft, along with Brown, were transported to the Lower Umpqua Hospital, where they were treated and released.
Charon was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device.
