Seniors march in Pacific High School graduation

The graduation ceremony for the Pacific High School Class of 2007 was Friday, in the school's gymnasium.
Graduates were to march to the stage with processional music performed by the Blanco/Driftwood Middle School Band under the direction of William Jarvis. Peter Wayrynen, class president, was to deliver a welcoming speech and the salutatory address. After a musical presentation, valedictorians Jody Lang, Thomas Manning and Benjamin House were to deliver the valedictory address, then past 2CJ School Board chairwoman, Virginia Hughes, presented the commencement address. Scholarship presentations were to follow, with then Superintendent/Principal Ruby Price presenting the graduating class to 2CJ School Board chairman, Joe Brown.
Seven of the 29 Pacific graduates have earned a Certificate of Initial Mastery, and 14 students have been designated “Honor Graduates” for having maintained a 3.00 GPA or better throughout high school.
Pacific High School Class of 2007 graduates include:
KamBria Mychal-Wold Akins, Rebecca Arnold, Rodrigo Caicedo, Curtis Comstock, Brittney Converse, Ruby Fanning, Alicia Francis, Leslie Goertz, Kelsey Gore, Callan Hass, Addie Hobson, Benjamin House, Samantha Keeler, Dwain Lakey Jr., Jody Lang, Michael Legg, Thomas Manning, Zane Martindale, John Miles, Melissa Moses, Shari Odson, Amanda Randall, Alyssa Rush, Justin Simmons, Kaemika Thanidasakul, Jacob Valentine, Kristy Watson, Peter Wayrynen and Krue Charles Wilson.
Pacific has a trio of valedictorians this year, all of whom graduate with a perfect 4.0 GPA and an academic history that includes college level courses:
Benjamin House was elected 2007 vice president of the high school's chapter of National Honor Society. He lettered in varsity basketball and soccer four years in a row, and earned a band letter for four years of performance on clarinet and saxophone. He was named February Rotary Student-of-the-Month during his senior year and has received various awards for academic performance throughout high school. Ben volunteered more than 400 hours of community service during his high school career. He recently was named a first-place winner in the Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship competition and will attend Oregon State University, where he will major in computer science. He is the son of Rick and Sue House of Langlois. He has two brothers, Adam and Daniel, and a sister, Heather.
Thomas Manning has distinguished himself in a number of extracurricular activities in high school. He attended Oregon Boys' State in the summer of 2006 and served as both Honor Society and class vice president his junior year. He lettered in soccer and basketball throughout high school, serving as captain for both sports. Manning was named Rotary Student-of-the-Month for November and has received various awards for academic performance and attendance. In addition, he chalked up more than 253 hours of community service in high school. He recently was named winner of the OSU Diversity Award and will attend the university next school year to pursue studies in business management. Thomas is the son of H. Thomas Manning and Pamela James, and lives in Langlois. He has one brother, Warren, and three sisters, Elizabeth, Natalie and Jenine.
Jody Lang represented Pacific High School at the National Youth Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., in 2006, and was named Rotary Student-of-the-Month for September in 2005. During her high school tenure she lettered in varsity soccer, basketball, track and cross country. She was awarded track's Most Valuable Player award two years in a row after qualifying for state competition in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles. In 2006, Lang was named Pacific High's Athlete-of-the-Year. Her volunteer work has included Over the Rainbow (an organization providing horseback riding opportunities for the handicapped) and Camp Fircroft, (a local church camp). She also has been elected to positions of leadership in the local chapters of Honor Society (secretary/treasurer), and Future Farmers of America (president). Jody was recently honored with awards/scholarships from the Elks Foundation, National Honor Society and the Oregon Lions Club. She has been accepted at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas, where she will major in design technology. Jody is the daughter of Earl and Merri Lang and lives near Langlois. She has two brothers, Shawn and Nathan.
Peter Wayrynen is the Class of 2007 salutatorian and has maintained a rigorous academic schedule throughout high school. He attended the National Youth Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., in the spring of 2006, and in the summer of 2006 was selected for Camp RYLA sponsored by Rotary. He was elected class president two years in a row, FFA vice president, and is a member of National Honor Society. Peter has been awarded various sports letters including four years in varsity soccer, four years in varsity track and field, and two years in varsity basketball. During his junior year he was honored as the May Rotary Student-of-the-Month. He will attend the University of Oregon in the fall and major in business. Peter is the son of Leslie and Dona Anderson of Port Orford, and has three brothers: William, Michael and Leslie.
