About 4,000 forks appeared on the lawn nearby Pacific High School in Port Orford on Wednesday morning, the result of an overnight ‘lawn forking' by the graduating senior class.

According to Earlyne Pendergrass, a teacher at the high school, the forks were not just an average prank pulled by graduating seniors in the last few weeks of school, but a tribute to the American troops currently serving in Iraq and the nearly 4,000 troops that have died in the war. Port Orford-Langlois Superintendent Ruby Price said school officials were a bit surprised to discover the forks on Wednesday, but pleased with the playful and poignant prank that damaged no property on campus. The graduation committee and several parents requested the school keep the display up through graduation, which was held on Friday, and students agreed to take down the forks during the senior's all-night drug- and- alcohol-free party tonight. Price said the school's lawn is the “talk of the town,” with many visitors coming to campus to see the tribute.
