Diamond Lake meeting set for tonight
Thursday, May 31, 2007 12:11 PM PDT

The restoration of a fishery in Diamond Lake will be the topic of the Eel Tenmile Salmon Trout Enhancement Program meeting at 6 o'clock tonight at Osprey RV Resort, 1505 North Lake Road, in Lakeside.

The presentation will be given by Holly Trumper of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife on the treatment of Diamond Lake with rotenone, a safe and effective pesticide derived from plant roots, to rid the lake of an estimated 90 million tui chub.

The goal was to restore water quality as well as to renew recreational trout fishing in Diamond Lake. The lake is currently open to anglers as ODFW has stocked it with 50,000 to 100,000 fingerlings and 10,000 to 25,000 catchable-size trout. A minimum of 50,000 put-and-take rainbow trout will be stocked pending funding.

Other topics that will be discussed include Eel Tenmile STEP and ODFW's annual Free Kid's Fishing Clinic and Trout derby to be held at Eel Lake on June 9.
