Top spellers from throughout the South Coast participated a spelling competition at the Boys & Girls Club of Southwest Oregon in Coos Bay recently. South Coast students snare spelling awards

Top spellers from Coos and Western Douglas counties came together at the Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon on Tuesday night for a county-level spelling competition.

Thirty-one students competed in four divisions for the chance to vie for the state spelling title this summer at the state fair in Salem. Approximately 140 parents, community members and friends attended the event.

First-place winners included Kaylee Krajcir, a third-grader from Blossom Gulch Elementary School; Mike Marsh, a fifth-grader at Millicoma Intermediate School; Nathan Gray an eighth-grader at Coquille Valley Middle School, and Whitney Wilson, a senior at Marshfield High School.

Division I (grades K-3)

2nd - Timothy Smith, third grade at Lincoln Elementary School

3rd - Rylee Keller, third grade at Highland Elementary School

Division II (grades 4-5)

2nd - Griffin Jack, fifth grade at Coquille Valley Middle School

3rd - Jess Wilson, fifth grade at North Bend Middle School

Division III (grades 6-8)

2nd - Jovian Davis, sixth grade at The Lighthouse School

3rd - Jessyka Copple, eighth grade at North Bend Middle School

Division IV (grades 9-12)

2nd - Bailey Moody, freshman at Coquille High School

3rd - Katie Ericson, senior at North Bend High School
