Coquille Elks announce scholarship winners

The Coquille Valley Elks is proud to announce that the local first-place winner in the Most Valuable Student Scholarship Contest, Caleb Carpenter of Myrtle Point, was selected as the third-place winner in the district-wide competition.

Local first-place winners receive a $800 scholarship; second-place winners receive $500; and third-place winners receive $300. By being chosen third place in the district competition, Caleb will receive an additional $1,800.

Caleb, the son of Russ and Alayna Carpenter of Myrtle Point, hopes to become an engineer and attend Oregon State University. Throughout his high school years, Caleb has participated in band, was a member of jazz band and show choir. He also is a member of the National Honor Society and an Eagle Scout.

Other local winners for the boys division include second place Logan Scherer, of Bandon; and third place Scott Buche, of Myrtle Point.

Winners in the girls division include first place Cassie Russell of Coquille; second place Marley Kennedy of Myrtle Point; and third place Morgan Grove of Myrtle Point.
