The high-flying antics of the Harlem Wizards return to Southwestern Oregon Community College on Monday night, when the Wizards face a team of local students.

The game tips off at 7:30 p.m. and admission is just one can of food, which will be donated to the Salvation Army food shelf for distribution in the local community.

The Wizards, who also played at the college last year, have a win streak greater than 2,800 games. But they thrive not on that success, but on entertaining the crowd with the show they call “Trick Hoopz and Alley Oops.”

Spectators will be treated to a high-flying, razzle-dazzle display of basketball against a team of players from the Lakers' squad and others who play intramural basketball at the college.

A big highlight will be a halftime show that will include members of the audience, many of them area elementary school students. Parents are encouraged to bring their youngsters to the game. The doors will open shortly before 7 p.m., when the teams will begin their warm-ups.

The Wizards have been entertaining crowds since 1962, playing more than 6,000 games in the United States and abroad.

Last year, more than 800 people showed up and more than 1,000 food items were donated.

The event is sponsored by Southwestern Oregon Community College Association Student Government.
