Oregon State Police and the Lincoln County Medical Examiner are continuing the investigation into Sunday's discovery of an unidentified, badly decomposed body on the beach about 2 miles south of Waldport.
According to an OSP press release, at about 12:30 p.m., a beachcomber spotted a body floating in the surf just off the beach, about 1 mile south of Governor Patterson Memorial State Recreation Site. OSP, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office and Yachats Fire and Rescue arrived on scene and retrieved the badly decomposed body of an adult male. Following an initial inspection, the body was taken to a funeral home, pending a later examination by the medical examiner.
The Lincoln County Medical Examiner and OSP investigators are releasing the following information in hopes of identifying the body:
€ the body is of a Caucasian male adult, estimated to be 6 feet, 7 inches tall;
€ was wearing a size 13 “Sketcher” Urbantrack Triumphant style shoes, black with two vertical gray stripes and shoes laces with gold metal tips.
OSP troopers are checking any open cases and investigations of missing persons to aid in possibly identifying the body.
The bodies of two South Coast fishermen, Capt. Rob Ashdown and crewman Joshua Northcutt, both of whom were on the F/V Ash, were never found after the vessel capsized near the mouth of the Rogue River at Gold Beach on Dec. 16, 2006.
Anyone with information is asked to call the OSP Northern Command Center at (800) 452-7888.
