Disabilities workshop set
Wednesday, April 18, 2007 12:16 PM PDT
Hollywood Dreams will be the local sponsor of a “Help Wanted” workshop for families of, and people with developmental disabilities.
The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, May 19, at the South Coast Education Service District's main office at 1350 Teakwood Ave., in Coos Bay. Lunch will be provided by Hollywood Dreams.
This workshop is sponsored on the state level by the Oregon Competitive Employment Project, part of the Oregon Office of Vocational Rehabilitation Services and by the Oregon Council on Developmental Disabilities. Coos County was one of three counties in the state selected for this workshop grant. It focuses on employment of transition-aged people from 16 to 26 years old.
The workshop will feature a vocational presentation by Tara Asai and Debra McLean. Each participant will leave the workshop with a “Person Centered Plan,” focusing on future employment. Local professionals will make up support teams to help design the plans.
Because space for the workshop is limited, pre-registration is required. Families of and people with developmental disabilities can obtain a pre-registration form by calling Jim Kemp at 266-8087 or by printing the form from the Internet at http://www.hollywooddreams.org.
The deadline for pre-registration is Friday May 4.
