Milwaukie officer injured in auto accident

Monday, April 09, 2007 |
PORTLAND (AP) - A police officer in the Portland suburb of Milwaukie suffered minor injuries Sunday when his patrol vehicle was rear-ended by a Dodge pickup, police said.
Officer Tom Garrett hurt his neck and wrist and was treated at a local hospital, said Officer Kevin Krebs, a Milwaukie police spokesman.
Krebs said Garrett stopped to assist a motorist who flagged him down when the pickup crashed into the back of his patrol car. The pickup was heavily damaged and the patrol car was totaled, Krebs said.
The driver of the pickup, David Mansell, 31, of Gladstone, was not injured, nor was the driver of the vehicle that needed assistance.
Krebs said Garrett's overhead lights were on at the time of the crash. He said speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the incident, which remains under investigation.
