Wednesday, April 04, 2007 |
The Siuslaw Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society is sponsoring the Spring Rhododendron Flower Show on April 14-15 in Florence.
“The show provides the opportunity to view and learn about rhododendrons that grow along the central Oregon Coast and in Florence, the City of Rhododendrons,” Show Chairman Jim Smith said in a press release. “We usually have over 350 beautiful entries from Washington, Oregon and California.”
The show is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 14; and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, at the Florence Events Center, 715 Quince Street.
The public is encouraged to submit rhododendron and azalea trusses and sprays for identification and judging. Entries should be brought to the Events Center between 7 and 9 a.m. on April 14. Chapter members and the public are encouraged to bring their trusses as early as possible to have all entries properly categorized for judging to begin at 9 a.m. Society members will be present to assist with identification and best presentation of the blooms. Judging will be on Saturday prior to the opening of the show to the public.
For growers who want to learn more about rhododendrons throughout the year, the Florence chapter meets at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Presbyterian Church of the Siuslaw at 3996 Highway 101 North, in Florence, just south of Bi-Mart.
For information, those interested can contact Jim Smith at (541) 268-6821 or Mike Bones, chapter president, at (541) 997-3082.
