Holmstedt, Rogers, Duey earn honors

South Coast basketball players Kellie Holmstedt, Ashley Duey and Marc Rogers all were named first-team all-state in their respective classifications by the state's coaches.

Holmstedt, a senior at North Bend, added first-team all-state honors in basketball to those she earned in volleyball in the fall. She also was Far West League most valuable player in both sports.

In basketball, she led the Bulldogs to third place in the Class 4A state tournament. Teammate Alysha Moore was an honorable-mention selection.

Courtney Cremer of Stayton was named player of the year.

Duey was picked to the first team for Class 3A girls after leading Myrtle Point to fourth place at the state tournament.

The senior was joined by four other teammates who received some level of recognition. Senior Marley Kennedy was named to the third team, while senior Kayla Hixson, junior Krissy Johnston and sophomore Sam Sanders were honorable-mention picks. Coquille junior Kalei Libby and Gold Beach senior Briana Wallace also were honorable-mention selections.

Burns star Jessica Clemens was named player of the year.

Rogers, the Sunset Six MVP, was named first-team all-state for Class 3A boys. He led Bandon to sixth place in the state tournament.

Myrtle Point's Scott Buche was a third-team selection.

Jeremy Bittner of Santiam Christian was the player of the year.

Marshfield junior Ali Worthen was an honorable-mention selection for Class 5A girls after the Pirates broke a long playoff drought.

State champion Willamette swept the top awards with player of the year Danielle Bellando and co-coaches of the year Paul Brothers, Terry Harrison and Lance Haas.

North Eugene's Brian Conklin was the Class 5A boys player of the year after leading the Highlanders to a perfect record and the state title.

In Class 4A, Siuslaw's Drew Holden was a second-team all-state selection, while teammate Jordan Rainwater was an honorable-mention pick. Zach Anderson of Yamhill-Carlton was named player of the year.
