A Bandon motorist was arrested Thursday afternoon after a trail of law enforcement vehicles were lead on a 10-mile pursuit around the rural roads by the Coos County Forest.

According to Bandon Police Chief Bob Webb, at approximately 3 p.m., an emergency caller reported a hit and run accident involving a green Dodge Neon, operated by Penny Peters, 39, on Seven Devil's Road. Coos County Sheriff's Office deputies were first on scene and unsuccessfully attempted to pull the vehicle over.

When it became apparent to police the driver would not pull over, Webb arrived, along with another Bandon officer to take part in the “driving tour.” Roads were blocked and police eventually stopped the vehicle with the use of a tack strip. Webb said the strips popped two of the Neon's tires.

“It wasn't a high-speed chase, but she wasn't going to stop,” said Sgt. Robert Van Zelf who was the first to engage in the pursuit.

Peters was charged with hit and run of a vehicle, attempting to elude police and two counts of reckless endangerment. She was taken to the Coos County jail and released on her own recognizance on Thursday.
