One lane of East Bay Drive has been closed for the foreseeable future after the ground beneath it slid away.

Bat-wielding assailants attack boy
A Coos Bay boy was assaulted with baseball bats Wednesday in the Empire area.

Fire destroys van
A mini-van was destroyed Wednesday after it burst into flames outside of Wal-Mart in Coos Bay. According to the Coos Bay Police log, at about 6:22 p.m., a vehicle was reported to be on fire in the Wal-Mart parking lot, 2051 Newmark Ave. Two engines and eight Coos Bay firefighters responded but the 1990 Ford Aerostar was severely damaged by the time help arrived.

Arrest
A Winchester Bay man was arrested Wednesday on charges related to a disturbance at the Coos Bay skateboard park. According to the Coos Bay Police log, at about 6:21 p.m., a man was reported yelling and causing a disturbance at the skatepark. Police arrested Timothy Pathway, 27, on charges of disorderly conduct, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and a probation violation. He was taken to Coos County jail, where he is being held without bail.
