Reedsport Animal Shelter volunteer Faye Glass, top, holds one of seven puppies at the shelter on Thursday. Glass said the shelter, operated by the Reedsport Police Department, is in need of volunteers - the volunteer staff is down to four people to care for the dogs. The dogs are fed and watered and their kennels get cleaned twice a day. Dogs that play well together are let out to play as often as weather permits. The shelter handles only dogs and all the food is donated by the local residents. Currently the shelter has four dogs and seven puppies available for adoption. Those interested in volunteering can fill out an application at the police department; anyone interested in adopting one of the dogs also can fill out an application to give one or more of the dogs a new home.
