Coquille Indian Tribe celebrates grant distribution

The Coquille Tribal Community Fund has awarded grants totaling $634,148 to community organizations this year.

Representatives of 55 area non-profit organizations and public agencies gathered recently in North Bend, with members of the Coquille Indian Tribe and the Fund's board of trustees, to celebrate the largest grant distribution in the six-year history of the fund.

The following organizations received funds.

€ Alternative Youth Activities: $12,815 for re-roofing of the Main Site School.

€ Assistance Dog Network: $5,000 for the Paws to Read program.

€ BACAPA: $15,500 to purchase a tractor.

€ Bay Area Senior Computer Club: $7,000 to purchase five laptop computers for seniors classes.

€ Boys and Girls Club of Western Lane County: $10,000 for youth tolerance and appreciation project.

€ BRING Recycling: $10,000 toward completion of a covered, handicap-accessible raised walkway.

€ Camp Myrtlewood: $5,000 toward completion of the camp kitchen.

€ CASA of Coos County: $5,000 for training and supervision of volunteers.

€ Charleston Fire Department: $6,600 to purchase firefighter safety equipment.

€ Charleston Food Bank: $4,500 for food and operating expenses.

€ Citizens for Bay Area Youth: $10,000 toward design costs for the proposed skate park.

€ City of Bandon Community Center: $24,000 to upgrade the community center and build a community kitchen.

€ City of North Bend Swimming Pool: $40,000 for the “Save our Pool” project.

€ Coastal Douglas Arts and Business: $7,684 for renovation of Pacific Auditorium.

€ Coos Art Museum: $1,500 to upgrade flooring in the Atrium Gallery.

€ Coos Bay Police Department: $5,000 to construct a “live fire” shoot house.

€ Coos County Foster Parents Association: $3,000 to pay freight for food for foster homes.

€ Coos County Logging Museum: $4,003 for a display board and the purchase of historical pictures.

€ Curry Health Foundation: $12,595 to purchase a ventilator.

€ Dora-Sitkum Fire District: $80,547.43 for improvements to the fire hall, library and community center.

€ Ecumenical Emergency Food Cupboard at Emmanuel: $10,000 to purchase food.

€ Florence Habitat for Humanity: $7,500 to purchase construction materials.

€ Friends of Lakeside Library: $2,000 to purchase computer software.

€ Friends of State Street Park: $5,000 to replace playground equipment.

€ Friends of the Coos County Animals: $5,000 to provide medical care to needy animals.

€ Furry Friends Therapy Dogs Inc.: $1,000 to educate children in dog safety and ownership.

€ Harbor Lights Middle School: $20,000 to develop an outdoor education center and cultural nature trail.

€ Lab Band Association: $6,000 to purchase six laptop computers and two printers.

€ Marshfield Pirate Band: $13,000 to purchase band uniforms.

€ Millicoma Garden Club: $3,610.89 to purchase a greenhouse.

€ Mingus Park Pool Management: $7,721 for a moveable ramp with submersible wheelchair.

€ Myrtle Point Lions Club: $1,500 for toys for children.

€ Myrtle Point School District: $5,622 to purchase acoustical shells.

€ Myrtle Point Senior and Activity Center: $6,688.68 to replace flooring of dining area.

€ NBHS Aspire Naggers: $6,430 for equipment and upgrades for the Career Center.

€ North Bend Masonic Lodge: $1,650 to purchase child identification equipment.

€ North Bend Fire Department Regional Dive Team: $17,796 to replace and purchase dive equipment.

€ Oregon Coast Community Action: $7,150 for Rental Assistance Program.

€ Planned Parenthood of SW Oregon: $10,000 for clinic management software system.

€ Port of Bandon: $10,000 to replace the roof on the Coast Guard Life Saving Station.

€ Port Orford Arts Council: $4,000 for Native American activities.

€ Powers Food Bank, the Joseph Project: $4,000 to purchase food.

€ Powers Public Schools No. 31: $7,000 to heat the covered play area.

€ Rogue Valley Search and Rescue: $5,908.14 to purchase radios for search and rescue.

€ SCBEC/Coos-Curry Senior Nutrition: $8,000 to provide homebound seniors with meals.

€ Seventh Day Adventist Food Bank: $7,000 to repair and line freezer with stainless steel.

€ SMART: $5,000 to purchase books and materials.

€ South Coast Alano: $4,500 to upgrade facility.

€ Southern Coos Health District: $20,755 to purchase a bronchoscope.

€ Southwest Oregon Regional Airport: $100,000 for underground utilities and landscaping.

€ SW Oregon Dental Hygiene Association: $5,072.74 to purchase supplies for educational presentations.

€ Triangle Food Box No. 1: $3,500 to purchase food.

€ Triangle Food Box No. 2: $2,500 for truck expenses.

€ Waterfall Clinic Inc.: $8,500 for expansion of school-based health care.

€ Women's Safety and Resource Center: $6,000 for facilitators for evening INOKA groups.

€ Womenspace: $25,000 to purchase a van.
