Coos Bay Public Library's independent reading program, “Around the Library in 80 Days, “will begin on March 7 and continue through May 25.

The 19th year of this popular program for students in preschool through high school will bring together the excitement of reading with the chance to win prizes.

Students track their reading and/or listening to books over a period of 80 days on a form available at Coos Bay School libraries and the Coos Bay Public Library. Everyone will earn prizes after reading 400, 800, 1,200, and 1,600 pages or minutes. Students who read 1,600 pages - an average of about 20 pages or minutes a day - or more will receive a paperback book and a chance to win a large prize.

Prizes will be on display at the library. A prize drawing will take place in the children's area at the library, at 3:30 p.m., on Friday, May 25.

The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Coos Bay Library. For more information, those interested can call 269-1101.
