Auditions will be held at Southwestern
Saturday, February 17, 2007 12:22 PM PST

The Southwestern Oregon Community College Theatre Department will present Joan Holden's feisty theatrical adaptation of “Nickel and Dimed” at the Hales Center for the Performing Arts, at 7 p.m. on March 2, 3, 9 and 10; and at 3 p.m. on March 4.

Veteran performer Cheri Valentine plays author and noted social critic Barbara Ehrenreich, whose best-seller portrays her time as a member of the working poor. “Nickel and Dimed” is considered a classic in exploring the reality of the working poor and a powerful analysis of gender and social class.

An ensemble cast of 15 performers will play 40 characters Ehrenreich meets along the way.

Associate professor of sociology Christina Alexander will guide an informal post-show discussion of the issues presented in the production following the performances on March 3 and 9.

General admission is $8 and free to students. For reservations call 888-SHOW. For more information, those interested can contact director Rob Clingan at 888-1578 or www.socc.edu/dept/theatre.
