Young poets invited to compete in library contest

The Celia Piehl Young Poets Awards, sponsored by the Foundation and Friends of the Bandon Public Library and William Piehl, will be distributed at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 16, in the Community Room of the Bandon Public Library, 1204 11th St. S.W.

The contest theme is “Searching for Peace in a Troubled World.” First place will earn a $150 prize; second place, $100; third place, $75; and three honorable mentions, for $50 each.

Any student in the Bandon or Langlois-Port Orford middle and high school districts, including home study, is eligible to participate.

Any form of poetry, rhyme or free verse, will be accepted. It should not exceed 40 lines. Poems should be unpublished and typed or neatly written on one side of an 81/2-by-11 sheet of white unlined paper. The title of the poem should be at the top and in the upper right hand corner should be the writer's age and the contest's theme. On a second copy of the poem, the author's name, address, telephone number and the poem's title should be written.

Poems must be submitted to the Bandon Public Library no later than March 9.
