Romantic films on screen this weekend

In honor of Valentine's Day, the Egyptian Theatre in downtown Coos Bay, will be showing a selection of classic and contemporary romantic films this weekend.

Showtimes are at 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and at 3 p.m. on Sundays.

On screen Friday will be “Casablanca,” the thrilling 1942 romance classic set during World War II in the Moroccan city of Casablanca. The film stars Humphrey Bogart as Rick Blaine and Ingrid Bergman as Ilsa Lund.

The smash hit “Sleepless in Seattle” (1993), will be shown at the theater on Saturday. The movie stars Tom Hanks as widower Sam Baldwin and Meg Ryan as Annie Reed.

On Sunday “Doctor Zhivago” (1965), a World War I romance set in Russia, will be on screen. The story of a love-affair between poet and Doctor Yuri Zhivago, played by Omar Sharif, and his mistress Larissa “Lara” Antipova, played by Julie Christie.

The box office opens one hour before showtimes, and general admission is $4, $3.50 for seniors and those 12 and under, and $3 for members. For more information, those interested can call 269-8650.
