I think that this bill is the most rediculous thing that I have ever heard. Atv's and dirtbike riding is was makes a family bond in our busy scheduals. As a motorcyclist and working at the parts department of a local shop, this will not only cause a problem for the bussiness, but the kids. What do you want the kids to do now sit around and get fat! So then if you starts attacking kids and safety should you not also attack snowboarding, horseback riding, cheerleading, football and everything else that a 12 year and younger child could get hurt doing. I don't think that the goverment is thinking clearly and parents know what's best for their kids. Another example, what about if your child is larger than the average size an can't fit on anything smaller than a 90, are you going to punish them from being to big. I think not.

I grew up riding since I was 5 and my brother was 3. Our parents took us to Florence almost every weekend. We couldn't start our bikes unless our helmet and gear was on..that was the rule. It was great! That is my number one, greatest memory as a kid. Sure, we got hurt, but so do kids who snowboard, ski, ride bikes and motorcycles...
26 years later, my husband & I have 2 sons, each nine years old. One has been riding since he was tall enough to reach the pegs(3ish)and the other started when he was 5. As a mother, I realize that their safety lies in my responsibility as a parent. Accidents will happen in every aspect of life. The government needs to back off and let parents be parents.
On another note, as I was growing up, the land use laws and restrictions changed the way we could ride at the coast so much, that when I was 16 my parents sold the bikes. Now, everytime I go to the coast, I am continually reminescing about the good ol' days when you could ride at night, ride from any of the campgrounds, etc...I now can understand my parents frustration way back then...and I will do everything neccessary to keep ATV's a part of my children's life!

I think that the bill is just unfair. It restricts alot of people from riding.Even people like us who have children that love to ride we think of this as spending a fun day at the dunes with our kids and if the bill passes we can't do that any more ,my kids will be devistated and thats sad!!!!

Reedsport loves atv owners. They support out hospital. They give locals an opportunity to get out and about as they clean up the mess left behind everywhere these folks camp. They give the paramedics and tow truck owners a chance to earn a better living. The stores sell more beer. Those of us who try to use the dunes have become better at slamming on the brakes as small children pop out on the road unexpectedly, usually far from any adult supervision. People in other areas appreciate them as well... funeral homes, physical therapists, surgeons...
And who doesn't love the screaming whine of an ATV when they go to the beach?
So, come one, come all, let those babies ride those big machines. Given parents who deem it safe and a good thing for their kids, I believe we should leave them alone. It'll help strengthen the gene pool.

I bought my kids ATV's after the local Skating Rink closed because there isn't a lot for the kids to do around here. Now, if this law passes my youngest won't be able to ride anymore. I have seen very young kids riding ATV's and dirt bikes. If they are well supervised by adults and given good instruction I see nothing wrong with a younger child riding. Is there going to be a minimum age to skateboard next???

Mr Loe is exactly right. I am a single Dad & my son & I have been riding together at the coast for the last three years.Last year he turned 16, the age the sticker on his quad says he has to be to ride it. After trying smaller quads I found out my son was safer on a Z400,identical to what I ride.

we WERE an ATV family, and when my son was 16 he was 6foot 2inches tall and weighed around 215.....a 90 cc machine would not haul him in dirt, let alone sand. He started riding as a 4 year old with all the safety equipment, and NEVER got on his machine without it. 120 deaths of kids NATIONwide is a small number considering how many are killed in cars on highways! KILL THE BILL.
