The Oregon State Police is seeking the driver of a car that was around the Richardson Road area, off state Highway 126 near Walton on Sunday, prior to the crash of a Toyota Four Runner.

According to an OSP press release, a trooper saw several cars racing along the highway about 23 miles east of Florence. A red Mazda Miata and the Four Runner were in the group. The trooper attempted to overtake them, passing the Miata to reach the leading vehicle, the Four Runner.

The Four Runner turned left onto Richardson Road and crashed into trees. The trooper assisted on scene until medical personnel arrived.

A female passenger, Amy White, no age given, of Springfield, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and an infant were taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene with injuries. No further information was available at press time.

Troopers are seeking information on the Miata driver.

Investigators believe the Miata continued eastbound on Highway 126 and that the driver or occupants of the car may have additional information. Anyone with information on the Miata is asked to contact Oregon State Police Northern Command Center dispatch at 800-452-7888.

Stupid! OSP should have radioed for a interception rather than chase. There are NO winners in street racing.
