CoastWatch sponsors lecture on Sunday

Oregon's rocky shorelines, and how they are managed, will be the subject of a slide presentation offered at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 28, in the council chambers at the Port Orford City Hall, 555 W. 20th St.
The free public event is sponsored by the CoastWatch program of the Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition and Kalmiopsis Audubon Society.
Laurel Hillmann, coastal resource planner for the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, will speak on “Oregon's Rocky Shores and How We Care for Them.” Hillmann recently completed a two-year study of Oregon's tidepools and other rocky intertidal areas, surveying both the current state of these resources and the various management policies affecting them.
In her presentation, she will report to the public on her findings. Her slide talk will explore rocky shoreline ecology and the diversity of rocky intertidal habitats found within the state. She also will discuss recommendations for improving management policies that protect Oregon's intertidal resources.
The event also will include a brief talk by Phillip Johnson, director of Oregon Shores' CoastWatch program.
For more information, those interested can call Linda Tarr of the Kalmiopsis Audubon Society at (541) 332-1032.
