Charleston parks get friendly, comical signs

Wednesday, January 24, 2007 |
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - The list of don'ts that greets visitors at two Charleston city parks is a little overwhelming and a bit unfriendly.
So it will be replaced with more humorous signs, according to The Charleston Gazette.
For starters, the signs at Slack Plaza and Davis Park will extend a hearty welcome to visitors. They will encourage visitors to enjoy the park's amenities during daylight hours. They will ask people not to skateboard or feed the pigeons, squirrels or, um, the mayor.
Charleston Area Alliance Vice President Susie Salisbury said the new signs advise users of the rules, but do it with a sense of humor.
One sign will be placed at each park entrance and all the older signs will be removed.
