Writing of the Coquille Salmon Restoration Plan is under way. And its authors want to be sure the public gets a chance to review and comment on the final draft of the plan.

The plan is intended as a tool to help guide those interested in restoring streams within the Coquille basin, according to a press release from the Coquille Watershed Association.

The knowledge and experience of more than two dozen individuals has gone into development of a rough draft of plan thus far. A variety of scientific information is being used to develop a strategy for restoring native fish populations. When completed, it will include specific biological objectives, a list of high priority streams for restoration, cost estimates and a monitoring section.

While the plan focuses on recovering coho salmon, it also includes actions beneficial to spring-run Chinook, lamprey and other native fish, the release said. It will serve as a local site-specific strategy for implementing the broader objectives of the Oregon Plan and draft Coho Conservation Plan.

A final draft of the plan will be available for public review today and until Feb. 2 at the following locations:

€ From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, at the Coquille Watershed Association, 55153 Picture Valley Road, in Coquille;

€ From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Coos County Oregon State University Extension, 631 Alder St., in Myrtle Point; and

€ From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Coquille Indian Tribal Office, 3050 Tremont St., in North Bend.
