Several people were injured due to traffic accidents on Sunday and Monday, on Newmark Avenue in North Bend and on U.S. Highway 101.

A van and a pickup truck collided on Sunday evening, slowing traffic near the Bi-Mart Shopping Center, 2225 Newmark Ave.

According to an Oregon State Police press release, at about 5:51 p.m., a Ford Aerostar minivan was traveling east on Newmark Avenue and pulled into the continuous turn lane. A Ford pickup truck was stopped in the turn lane attempting to turn left into the Bi-Mart parking lot, when it was struck head-on by the minivan.

The driver of the van, Bonnie M. Foreman, 68, of North Bend, was taken to Bay Area Hospital with injuries. The driver of the truck, William B. Downing, 37, of North Bend, refused medical assistance at the scene and drove himself to the hospital.

Both were treated and released on Sunday, according to a hospital spokeswoman. Foreman was cited by OSP with careless driving.

A man was injured after crashing into a stand of trees Monday morning.

According to an Oregon State Police press release, a car was traveling north on U.S. Highway 101 near milepost 215, near Winchester Bay, when it veered off the roadway and crashed into a stand of trees.

The driver, Rigoberto V. Esparza, 23, of Sutherlin, was taken to Peace Harbor Hospital in Florence with critical injuries. Two passengers in the vehicle were uninjured, OSP said.

Esparza was released Tuesday, according to a hospital spokeswoman. OSP cited him with driving under the influence of intoxicants.

Oregon State Police was unable to provide further information on the passengers or the vehicle involved in the crash.
