Residents can comment on the draft environmental impact statement regarding the relicensing of the Iron Gate, Copco 1, Copco 2 and J.C. Boyles dams on the Klamath River, even though the timeframe for submitting the comments is short.

Information handed out by Federal Energy Regulatory Commission representatives at the Wednesday meeting indicated that:

- Comments should be submitted no later than Dec. 1.

- All correspondence must clearly show at the top of the first page, “Klamath Hydroelectric Project, FERC No. 2082-027.”

- Comments must be submitted to:

Magalie R. Salas, secretary

Federal Energy Regulatory Commission

888 First St. N.E.

Washington, D.C. 20426

- Information concerning the relicensing of the Klamath Hydroelectric Project can be found on the FERC Web site: www.ferc.gov

- The commission strongly encourages electronic filings. Instructions can be found on the commission's Web site at www.ferc.gov/docs-filing/efiling.asp.

- The public record for the Klamath Hydroelectric Project relicensing can be reviewed via the eLibrary link - www.ferc.gov/docs-filing/elibrary .asp - by selecting “General Search” and using Docket No. P-2082.

- The draft environmental impact statement can be reviewed online at: http://elibrary.ferc.gov/idmws/search/intermediate.asp?link_file=yes& doclist=4441449

The commission expects the final environmental impact statement to be ready by April 23, 2007, and will make a decision on relicensing the Iron Gate, Copco 1, Copco 2 and J.C. Boyles dams thereafter. The commission also will have to obtain water quality certificates from both Oregon and California before making a decision on relicensing.
