An eclectic group of women from around the region have been invited by the Waterfront Players for a one-day conference to address “Women and Theater In A ‘Post-Feminist' World,” on Saturday at the Waterfront Players in the Pony Village Mall, 1611 Virginia Ave., in North Bend. There also will be a presentation at 4 p.m. on Sunday titled “Chai in Chaos,” about women, reproductive health and human rights in Afghanistan, as illustrated by the picture, left, taken by one of the event's speakers, Marion Topke, while in that country. The group will examine the current status of women - locally, regionally and globally. Women from Coos Bay, North Bend, Bandon, Eugene, Springfield, Roseburg and Port Orford have been invited to this conference. The invitees range in age from 15 to 70-plus. They are from all walks of life and of all educational backgrounds. Some of the topics to be discussed include specific issues for women today, young women in a post-feminist world, how theater can help address current women's issues and the next steps for the women's movement. Waterfront Players Artistic Director Judy Elliot McDonald will chair the conference. For more information, those interested can call the Waterfront Players at 751-0708.
