Musician to perform in Florence on Sept. 16
Tuesday, August 29, 2006 3:16 PM PDT
Harry Manx will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, at the Florence Events Center, 715 Quince St. He also will perform at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Pistol River Friendship Hall.
Tickets are $15 each for open seating in the Florence Events Center theater. For more information and to purchase tickets, those interested can call the box office, noon to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at (541) 997-1994.
Born on the Isle of Man, Manx spent his childhood in Canada and left in his teens to live in Europe, Japan, India and Brazil. He honed his hypnotic live show on street corners, in cafes, bars and at festivals. But it was Indian music that captured Manx and in the mid-'80s, he began his five-year tutelage with Rajasthani Indian musician Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (Grammy winner with Ry Cooder for “A Meeting by the River”).
Blending Indian folk melodies with blues, a sprinkle of gospel and compelling grooves, Manx's “mysticssippi” flavor is hard to resist, easy to digest and what keeps audiences coming back for more, according to a press release. |
