Chautauqua program set at Langlois library
Tuesday, August 29, 2006 3:16 PM PDT
The Chautauqua program, “The Magic West on Film,” will be presented at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, at the Langlois Public Library.
The program will feature a lecture and slide show by Richard Etulain. The free public program is funded by the Oregon Council for the Humanities.
Etulain's slide-illustrated lecture will offer a historical overview of more than 100 years of Western films. By considering classics such as “Stagecoach,” “High Noon” and “Shane,” as well as modern Westerns, such as “Geronimo,” “Lone Star” and “Brokeback Mountain,” participants will explore the popular genre's changing images of heroes and heroines, Native Americans and attitudes about the environment.
