ALERT training will be held this September

Community Emergency Response Team Training, locally known as Auxiliary Local Emergency Response Team, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8; from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9; from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10; and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Community Health and Education Center, located at 3950 Sherman Ave., next to Hearthside Care Center. The training sessions on Saturdays, Sept. 9 and 23, will include a half-hour no-host lunch.

The training will include local hazard analysis, basic fire science and suppression, hazardous materials identification, disaster medical training and triage, light urban search and rescue, cribbing heavy objects, communications, disaster psychology, overview of the Incident Command System, and a full scale exercise.

This course is for community citizens and is not designed for professional first responders. The course is free to attend, and no special equipment is required.
