Arts and Seafood Festival set in Port Orford

The Arts and Seafood Festival in Port Orford will be held Labor Day weekend, Friday through Monday, Sept. 1 through 4.
On Friday, the Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Sock Hop Dance, featuring oldies and DJ entertainment, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the community building. The cost is $3 for adults and $1 for children 12 and under. Also on Friday, the Beachcombers Square Dance Club will have a dance of their own beginning with a pre-round at 7 and the dance at 7:30, on Nicholson Drive, north of town at the Beachcombers Cove.
On Saturday, the Beachcombers will be dancing in the surf at Battle Rock Beach at 11 a.m. That evening, there will be another dance at the Cove. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., a religious art exhibit will be shown at St. John's Catholic Church. At 1 p.m., there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Port overlook in dedication to the new public mosaic artwork and artist Cheryl Morse. From 1 to 5 p.m., visitors can explore Port Orford's art galleries and eat during the Gallery Art Walk. Visitors also can drive just south of town and meet the artists of the fine arts show during the artists' reception, from 3 to 6 p.m. The Arts Council theater group, Theatre 101, will be performing “Parallel Lives” at 7 p.m. on Saturday in the community building. The Masonic Lodge will serve fresh fish from 2 to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the Legion Hall.
On Sunday, there will be a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Beachcombers Cove. From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Port Orford Rotary will have its annual “Show and Shine” car show in the Driftwood Elementary School field. Just down the street, the student art display will be shown from noon to 5 p.m. at the Port Orford Arts Council headquarters. In addition, the POAC is sponsoring a fine arts show from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, at the location of the artists' reception.
On Monday from 1 to 4 p.m., the Chamber of Commerce and the Arts Council invites the public to celebrate Port Orford's 155th birthday during the community picnic at Buffington Park.
