North Bend

Registration for kindergarten through sixth-grade students in the North Bend School District, attending Hillcrest Elementary School, will be from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today; and those in kindergarten through grade four can register for attendance at North Bay Elementary from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today.

Parents who are enrolling kindergarten students, or students entering school for the first time, are asked to bring a copy of the birth certificate or proof of age, and a record of immunizations. Kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1.

Registration for returning students who will be in grades seven and eight at North Bend Middle School can register from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22. Pre-registration for new seventh- and eighth-grade students, or those returning for schedule changes, will be from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today, and Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 21 and 22.

Returning students who did not receive a registration packet by Tuesday, Aug. 15, can call the counseling office at 751-7285.

Pre-registration for ninth- through 12th-grade students who are new to the district can register by appointment between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday, Aug. 22 through 25, by calling 751-7183. Alternative Youth Activities students can register from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 23; and foreign exchange students can register from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24.

Registration for returning students in grades nine through 12 can register on Friday, Aug. 25. Ninth-graders will register from 7:45 to 9:30 a.m.; 10th-graders will register from 10 to 11:15 a.m.; 11th-graders from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.; and 12th-graders from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m.

Returning students at North Bend High School can pick up a schedule change request form in Student Services, and parents must sign the form. Once returned to the high school, requests will be reviewed by counselors, in the order they are received.

Kindergartners must have the following immunizations before beginning school: diphtheria, tetanus and polio series; measles, mumps and rubella; hepatitis B series; and chicken pox vaccination (if they haven't already contracted the disease).

Seventh-graders must have had a booster for measles, mumps and rubella; the hepatitis B series; and the chicken pox vaccination (if they haven't already contracted the disease).

The first day of school for kindergarten through ninth-grade students will be Tuesday, Sept. 5. The first day of school for 10th-, 11th- and 12th-grade students at North Bend High School will be Wednesday, Sept. 6.

Reedsport

Highland Elementary School in Reedsport is open for registration of all students in kindergarten through grade six who are new to the district.

Office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Kindergarten students must be 5 years of age by Sept. 1 in order to start school. Those registering will need to bring a copy of the birth certificate, immunization records, and Social Security number for all kindergarten students being enrolled.

Class lists will be posted on the front windows of Highland beginning Friday, Sept. 1 after 5 p.m. Class assignments will not be available before this date due to last-minute enrollments and withdrawals.

The first day of school at Highland (Tuesday, Sept. 5) will begin with a welcome celebration for grades one through six. Parents are encouraged to come to school with their child, visit the classroom and meet their child's teacher. Parents also are welcome to stop by the gym for milk and cookies. The celebration will run from 7:45 to 8:30 a.m.

Regular classes will begin for students in grades one through six at 8:30 a.m. Classes will begin at the regular time (8:15 a.m.) on Wednesday, Sept. 6. Students should come prepared with their supplies and lunches or lunch money. Students will receive handbooks and other important materials the first day. Buses will begin running on Tuesday, Sept. 5, for all students except kindergarten B.

Open house for kindergarten A students will be from 7:45 to 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5. Kindergarten B students will have their open house from 7:45 to 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 6. Parents are encouraged to come to school with their child and visit the classroom and meet the teacher. Kindergarten students will stay for the remainder of the day once their open house is over.

Hot lunch and breakfast will be available for students in kindergarten through grade six. Breakfast and lunch will begin being served on Tuesday, Sept. 5. Highland Elementary School will provide a free breakfast to every student each school day. Free and reduced lunch applications will be sent home with students the first day of school. Highland's lunch program is computerized, so students need to pay for meals in advance. Families are urged to pay by the week or month.

Bus schedules and the supply list will be listed in the paper prior to the beginning of school.

Coquille

The first day of school for all students in the Coquille School District is Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Bandon

Registration dates for Ocean Crest Elementary, Harbor Lights Middle School and Bandon High School are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Monday, Aug. 21 to Friday, Sept. 1.

All students, new or returning, must register for school each year from the fifth through the 12th grades. If a child needs immunizations, parents are asked to be sure to get them over the summer and bring proof of immunization with to registration.

Ocean Crest Elementary students who were enrolled last year do not need to pre-register; update papers will be sent home the first day. New students and kindergarten students who have not already registered need to do so as soon as possible. Those who are registering a kindergarten student are asked to bring the child's birth certificate and immunization records.

High school fall sports practice begins Monday, Aug. 21. Students are reminded that all paperwork must be completed and turned in, and current physicals must be on file in the high school office before they can practice. Forms can be picked up in the high school office.

Tuesday, Sept. 5, is the first day of school.

Powers

Students entering the seventh through 12th grades at the Powers School District can register in the high school office.

Returning elementary school students will register on the first day of school, Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Incoming students and kindergarten students still can register by visiting the high school office.

Coos Bay

Registration for all students in the Coos Bay School District will begin Wednesday, Aug. 23. Birth certificates are required, if not provided previously.

Children in kindergarten through grade four, who will be attending Blossom Gulch, Bunker Hill or Madison elementary schools can register from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 23; from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24; and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25.

Those entering grades five and six, who will be attending Millicoma Intermediate School, can register from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 23 and 24; and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25.

Youth in grades seven and eight attending Sunset Middle School can register from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 23 and 24; and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25.

Freshmen entering Marshfield High School can register from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Aug. 31. Those with last names beginning with A and B register at 8 a.m., H through J at 8:30, P through R at 9, C through E at 9:30, K through M at 10, S and T at 10:30, F and G at 11, N and O at 11:30, and U through Z at noon. The freshman orientation will be on Tuesday, Sept. 5. All pictures will be taken beginning at 1 p.m.

Sophomores, juniors and seniors entering the high school can register from 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Sept. 5. Seniors with last names beginning with P through Z register at 8 a.m., A through G at 8:30, and H through O at 9 a.m. Juniors with last names beginning with P through Z register at 9:30, A through G at 10, and H through O at 10:30. Sophomores with last names beginning with P through Z register at 11, A through G at 11:30, and H through O at noon. Registration doors will close at 12:15 p.m. each day.

Registration for Destinations Academy and Resource Link Charter School students will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Aug. 23, 24 and 25.

All students should complete the registration process at the school they will be attending, including kindergarten children who pre-registered last spring. To enroll a child in kindergarten, parents must bring proof the child will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1. To enroll a child in the first grade, they must have successfully completed kindergarten, or be 6 years of age on or before Sept. 1.

As a condition of attendance in any school, every student through grade 12 must submit to the administrator or representative a completed immunization record at the time of registration, unless the school the student attends already has the record on file.

Physical examinations are required for students in grades seven through 12 before participating in extra-curricular sports. This is a biannual requirement.

The first day of school for all students - except sophomores, juniors and seniors - is Tuesday, Sept. 5. Sophomores, juniors and seniors will begin classes on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

Students in grades nine through 12, who are new to the school district, are encouraged to call 267-1405, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, to schedule an appointment with a counselor. Counselors will meet with new students to select and schedule classes for the upcoming school year.

Myrtle Point

Registration for new students at Myrtle Crest School (kindergarten through grade 6) will take place from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21. New kindergartners will need to bring a birth certificate and a current shot record. Students new to the district from out of the state also need to bring a current shot record and birth certificate. All other new students only need to fill out registration documents.

Registration at Myrtle Point Junior/Senior High School will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 23, for ninth- through 12th-graders; Thursday, Aug. 24, for seventh- and eighth-graders, and Friday, Aug. 25, for new students.

Students will be required to pay individual fees for the school year. These fees include the yearly student body fee of $25, the yearly locker fee of $10 and the one-time textbook deposit of $25. Other optional fees are available upon request from the office at 572-2811, option 2.

New students should bring current shot records and transcripts from the last school they attended, if they have them.
