Injuries reported at DuneFest

Not a DuneFest passes without ATV-related injuries, and this year was no exception.

According to a Douglas County Sheriff's Office press release, at about 1 p.m. Saturday Leanne Stoddart, 44, of British Columbia, Canada, was riding over a short razorback on the Umpqua Dunes when her face struck the handlebar of her ATV, giving her a laceration over her left eye and the bridge of her nose. Stoddart was transported to Lower Umpqua Hospital where she was treated and released.

Later Saturday, at about 4:15 p.m., a serious injury ATV accident was reported near the Third Beach parking lot in Umpqua Dunes. According to a Douglas County Sheriff's Office press release, the victim, Tina Bowles, 30, of Hillsboro, was transported to Lower Umpqua Hospital, where she was treated and later released.

According to Dwes Hutson of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, many more ATV accidents likely occurred over the weekend, but further information would not be available until later today.
