CORVALLIS - Now that they've got a national championship and their head coach has re-signed, the Oregon State Beavers are focusing on some behind-the-scenes improvements.

A $500,000 electronic scoreboard is going up in right center, replacing the 20-year-old Scott Halbrook Memorial Scoreboard. The new one will have replay capabilities.

“It's going to be awesome,” assistant coach Marty Lees said. “It's another thing that will make OSU baseball better for the kids and the fans.”

Additionally, a synthetic infield surface will be installed in October, after fall practice, and the coaches' offices in Gill Coliseum are getting made over.

More enhancements appear on the way as the team enjoys the fruits of its College World Series victory over North Carolina.

Lees said registration for Oregon State's upcoming summer camp has skyrocketed, and potential recruits now readily know about the school in Corvallis.

A Goss Stadium fundraising drive aims to increase capacity by extending the grandstands on both sides of the field by the 2008 season.

“I really believe that by the end of this summer we're going to raise a couple million dollars, which would take care of everything,” coach Pat Casey said. “We'd already raised somewhere in the range of $1.1 million, so I think we'll have a tremendous facility ... the best place in the conference to watch a baseball game.”

After claiming their second straight Pacific-10 Conference championship, the Beavers fought off elimination in Omaha six times, becoming the first team in College World Series history to lose twice and still win the national championship.

Last week, Oregon State signed Casey to a 10-year contract worth nearly $300,000 a year. The 45-year-old coach turned down an offer to coach at Notre Dame.
