Lucky lady wins second Hawaiian trip

Lightning never strikes the same place twice.
Luck, however, isn't quite so selective.
Bandon resident Debra Reavis has won an all-expense paid trip to Honolulu from Coos Bay Toyota - for the second time.
“I was more surprised the second time than the first,” Reavis said with a laugh.
Coos Bay Toyota offered the vacation as a prize in a drawing this summer, the same trip the dealership offered in a drawing two years ago - but no one expected Reavis to win again.
Reavis said she entered the drawing again because she had such a great time in Hawaii two years ago. Even though she entered the drawing, she really didn't think she'd win.
Out of about 350 entries in the local drawing, Reavis' name somehow ended up in the hand of Guy Hawthorne, owner of Coos Bay Toyota.
“I stuck my hand down, ran it all around, and pulled her name out,” Hawthorne said. “As soon as she answered the phone ... I thought, you've got to be kidding me!”
Coos Bay Toyota has only offered the Hawaiian vacation prize in a drawing twice, and Reavis has won them both. Hawthorne said he was extremely surprised when he found out that Reavis was a two-time winner.
“He told me, ‘You're not going to believe this, but I drew your name again,'” Reavis said with a grin. “The first time I won, Guy said, “Well you don't sound excited.' But this time I was more excited because I know what to expect of the islands.”
Reavis already is planning. The vacation will be exactly the same as her first trip, even down to the hotel. The first time, Reavis and her husband, Rick, raced around the islands trying to experience everything.
“We did everything we possibly could on our first trip because we thought we'd never get back there,” Reavis said. “But there were enough historical things we didn't get to do, that we definitely thought we'd like to go back.”
Now they have that chance - as unexpected as it might be.
“This trip is going to just be relaxing,” she said. “Hawaii is always nice, though.”
Reavis, a longtime South Coast resident, has worked at the Lifecare Center in Coos Bay for 25 years. She and Rick plan on taking their second Hawaiian vacation in March next year.
Hawthorne said the dealership plans to hold another vacation drawing next year. Drawings are open to anyone, not just customers of the dealership, he added.
After seeing Reavis win twice, Hawthorne said he doesn't have a clue who might win next year.
“It's the weirdest thing I've seen. What are the odds of that?” he said. “You can bet she'll be entering again next year.” |
