Foster Lake Swim
Facing choppy waves from ski boats, Coos Bay resident Ralph Mohr participated in another summer open water swim, this time going 2,000 meters in Foster Lake near Sweet Home on June 24.
“I had to vary my stroke a lot because the chop from ski boats and the wind tossed us around over the triangular course,” Mohr said. “We were all sore afterwards.”
Mohr completed the 2,000 meters in 36 minutes and 7 seconds after helping set up the course from his wooden boat. He then was part of the winning three-people relay on a team called Tres Mures Caeci (Three Blind Mice), each swimming 400 meters. Mohr was 11th out of 14 swimmers in the 2,000 with 11 other participants choosing to go only 1,000 meters in the 66-degree water.
Mohr swims with Masters group at Mingus Park Pool on the weekend. His next open water competition will be at Applegate Lake near Jacksonville.
