Unity by the Bay will hold its plant and treasure sale will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Unity by the Bay, 2100 Union Ave., in North Bend.

Community Garden work party: A work party is scheduled at 9 a.m. at the Lady Bug Landing Community Garden, located on Eighth and Anderson in Coos Bay. Those planning to participate are asked to bring cordless drills and screwdrivers, shovels, wheelbarrows, 5-gallon buckets and gloves.

The South Coast Wood Turners will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the backside of Harding School, 755 S. Seventh St., in Coos Bay. For more information, those interested can call Russ or Lynn Rountree at 396-5776.

Auction for Dora-Sitkum RFPD: The Dora-Sitkum Rural Fire Protection District will hold an auction from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Coquille Valley Elks Lodge, 54942 Maple Heights Road, in Coquille. A preview of the auction will start at 10, and the auction will begin at 11. A pie auction will be held from 3 to 4.

Nature Walk: U.S. Bureau of Land Management naturalist Don Luce will lead a nature walk, from 10 a.m. to noon at the New River Area of Critical Environmental Concern. Those interested in participating in the nature walk should meet Luce at 10 a.m. at the Ellen Warring Learning Center, located at the New River ACEC, at the end of Croft Lake Lane, approximately 8.6 miles south of Bandon off of U.S. Highway 101.

The Winchester Bay Grange will hold a flea market from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the grange. There will be many plants and gifts for sale, as well as new vendors.

A two-day monotype printmaking workshop will be offered from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Eden Hall at Southwestern Oregon Community College, 1988 Newmark Ave., in Coos Bay. Registration fee is $175 for both days, and includes all materials. The class is open to 12 students. Scholarships for the workshop are available.

Classes on body awareness will be offered from 11 a.m. to noon at the First Presbyterian Church, 438 Elrod, in Coos Bay. Easy stretching, yoga postures, qi gung and tai chi will be incorporated into a smooth, gentle program focusing on balance, breathing and posture. Greenacres Grange No. 834 will hold its regular monthly meeting, beginning with a potluck at 5 p.m., at the grange. A special program and meeting will follow the potluck.

A spaghetti dinner will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., with a cake raffle at 7 at the Coquille Eagles Lodge. The dinner will include spaghetti, salad, French bread and dessert. Cost is $7 for adults and children 14 and older, and $5 for children under 14. Families can get in for $25.

“Waiting for Godot” at Southwestern: The theater department at Southwestern Oregon Community College will stage “Waiting for Godot,” to mark the 100th birthday of Samuel Beckett today, Saturday, Sunday, and May 19 and 20 in the Hales Center for the Performing Arts on the Southwestern campus, 1988 Newmark Ave. Curtain time is 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Dance at Bandon High School: A dance will be held at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium of Bandon High School. Admission is $3.

The sixth-annual “Star-Gazin'” talent revue, a South Coast Hospice benefit, will be at 7:30 p.m. today and 2 p.m. Sunday at Little Theatre on the Bay in North Bend. Tickets are $10, and are available by calling 269-2986 or at the door. There will be no reserved seating for the event.

Ballroom dance lessons are offered from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Bandon Grange Farwest Hall on state Highway 42 South, just east of U.S. Highway 101. A dance follows the lessons from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Those attending can wear casual clothing, and singles and couples are welcome. No smoking or alcohol is allowed. “I Hate Hamlet” at MHS: The Madrala Players at Marshfield High School will be presenting Paul Rudnick's comedy, “I Hate Hamlet,” today, Saturday, Sunday, and May 19 and 20 and 21. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m. and the doors open at 7 p.m. Sunday matinees start at 2 p.m. and doors open at 1:30 p.m. Evening tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students. The On Broadway Theater will present “Hansel and Gretel,” through June 4. Performances are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 4 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $10, $7 for children and $8 for matinees.

Mother's Day Brunch: Southwestern Oregon Community College and Chef Jardin Kazaar of the Black Market Gourmet will be offering a Mother's Day brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Oregon Coast Culinary Institute on Southwestern's campus, 1988 Newmark Ave., in Coos Bay.

Mother's Day at Shore Acres State Park: For Mother's Day families and mothers are invited to visit Shore Acres State Park to enjoy the rhododendrons, and refreshments from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Garden House. Also in the garden, members of the Bay Area Artists' Association will hold a “paint-out” to help celebrate Mother's Day.

The history and traditions of the Coquille Indians will be shown in narrative text and pictures in the lobby at the Coos Bay Public Library, 525 W. Anderson Ave., throughout May.

Photographs on display through May: During the month of May, the Coos Bay Public Library is exhibiting the work of photographers from the Oregon Coast Photographers' Association. The exhibit can be viewed free of charge in the main reading room during regular library open hours.

John Renda's show of photographs of Oregon Coast ships, landscapes and wildlife will be featured throughout May at the North Bend Public Library, 1800 Sherman Ave. The photographer will host a reception during Artwalk! from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at the library.

Tracy Hassett will exhibit his fine art photography and giclee art through May 31 in the Oregon Coast Spine Institute's new facility, located at 1957 Thompson Road in Coos Bay.

Kelp art at nb library throughout May: Dortha Oyler's whimsical figurines made from kelp are on display from May 1 through 30 at the North Bend Public Library, 1800 Sherman Ave.

EAT provides dinners: Everyone At the Table will provide low-income families with dinners from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at The Barn in Bandon. Donations are accepted.

HOT MEALS FOR SENIORS: Bay Area Senior Activity Center offers soups, salads, entrées and desserts at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday through Friday. Cost is $3.50 for BASAC members, $4 for non-members. THE NORTH BEND SENIOR CENTER'S luncheon program is available to everyone, not just seniors. Buffet-style meals are available from 11:30 a.m. until everyone is served, Monday through Friday. COASTAL HARVEST, Oregon's 37th gleaning organization and holder of Oregon's 2004 Excellence in Community Services Award for “Providing Special Services for Families,” invites help in providing food security for families in Bandon. Whether people volunteer, donate surplus bounty from gardens or gift the group for memorials, such efforts will be “helping grow a sharing community.” Monthly meetings are held in Bandon on the first Thursday.
