The tall ships Hawaiian Chieftain Lady Washington will arrive in Coos Bay for extended visits and tours today and tomorrow.

Due to weather holdups, the Lady Washington, which was expected into the bay early Wednesday, will be delayed until Friday.

“She's beating her way north from Eureka (Calif.) to Coos Bay, but she's facing 10-13 foot swells and a steady 25-knot head wind,” said Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority Marine Operations Manager Bob Kennedy.

“But the Hawaiian Chieftain, which is in Brookings now, got a good weather window and is scheduled to arrive, weather allowing, at 2 p.m. today at the Coos Bay City Docks.”

The ships are scheduled to be in Coos Bay through Monday, May 15. During the visit dockside tours, educational programs and sailing programs will be offered. For some events, reservations are recommended. For more information, those interested can call (800) 200-LADY.

As an added feature, the Marshfield Sun Printing Museum will be open special hours during the visit of the tall ships Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain.

The museum will be open for free tours, hosted by skilled volunteers, during the Lady Washington's public dock-side tours which will run through May 15.

Hours will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today only and then from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Fridays; and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Regular summer hours are 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

The museum is located at the north end of Front Street on Coos Bay's historic waterfront, less than 10 blocks north of the City Docks.

For more information, those interested can call 267-4027.
