Shoreline geology seminar set for Saturday

Shoreline Education for Awareness is winding down its winter/spring seminar season on Saturday. The morning session will begin at 9 after 8:30 registration with Dr. Ron Metzger, of Southwestern Oregon Community College, explaining geology.
Metzger received his undergraduate degree with honors from St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., and went on to be awarded his master's degree and Ph.D. from the University of Iowa at Iowa City in paleontology with a specialty in biostratigraphy studying conodonts, a Paleozoic fossil that aids in establishing geologic time frames.
In the afternoon, Craig Cornu, stewardship coordinator at the South Slough National Estaurine Research Reserve, will discuss “Salt Marsh Restoration.” In 1980, Cornu received a degree in graphic design and landscape architecture with a minor in biology, the latter led to a teaching experience at Oregon Institute of Marine Biology which, in turn, lead him to South Slough, where he has been involved with habitat restoration.
The last seminar, an open book review, will be Saturday, May 13, at the OIMB boathouse in Charleston. Attendance is required for new docents and highly recommended for experienced docents because of new information shared through the years by the presenters.
Also, corrected and updated pages to be put into the Docent Manual will be available. Starting time will be 9 a.m. with registration at 8:30.
This will be a morning session only and, as usual, coffee and snacks will be available.
