The city of Coos Bay Firefighters' Memorial Committee will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at 6 p.m. today at the memorial site in front of city hall in the courtyard, located at 500 Central Ave. The official dedication is tentatively scheduled for November.

This memorial is to honor firefighters Capt. Randy Carpenter and firefighters Jeff Common and Chuck Hanners, who lost their lives during a fire on Nov. 25, 2002.

Those interested are encouraged to attend the groundbreaking ceremony.
