Meeting in Florence on duneland sale
Thursday, January 26, 2006 11:25 AM PST
Lane County commissioners plan to hold a public hearing on Feb. 7 on the proposed sale of 80 acres of dune and forestland directly across the Siuslaw River from Florence.
The meeting is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. at the Florence Events Center, 715 Quince St. There will be a sign-up sheet, and those wishing to testify will be given three minutes.
The county owns the land, which was seized for back taxes. The county had proposed to sell the parcel to the highest bidder, to acquire funds for developed recreation at other county sites. However, some Florence are opposed to development of the land, which is considered a visual gateway to the Oregon Dunes National Recreation area. More than 2,000 people reportedly have signed a petition against the sale.
One proposal being considered is for the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department to purchase it. The agency owns land adjacent to the parcel. |
