Newmark Avenue will be closed Monday and Tuesday from Empire Boulevard to Mill Street, for a waterline construction project by the Coos Bay-North Bend Water Board.

According to Water Board General Manager Rob Schab, crews will be installing the main to connect to the bay-crossing line that was put in last year. To install the new water main, they will dig up part of Newmark Avenue, lay the pipe under the street, connect it and restore the street, Schab added.

The entire project should take two days, with Newmark re-opening on Wednesday morning.

Schab said the project won't stop traffic and that anyone going to the Empire boat ramp can take Michigan Avenue instead. The waterline construction will not interrupt water service in the area either, he added.
