€ 93 years ago (Jan. 21, 1913, Coos Bay Times) - In Mexico, the Colima volcano was in violent eruption. Thousands of people fled from villages to ranches, and volcanic dust was settling on the city. In Portland, the snowfall ranged from 5.8 to 18 inches, making it the heaviest snowfall to occur in Portland in 12 years.

€ 79 years ago (Jan. 21, 1927, Coos Bay Times) - The mid-year graduation exercises for Marshfield High School were scheduled, with 10 graduates for the high school, and 41 graduates from the junior high school. Hagquist and Bjorkqvist, contractors of Marshfield, bought out the interest in the Aasen logging company held by the Coquille Valley Mercantile company.

€ 70 years ago (Jan. 21, 1936, Coos Bay Times) - If a bonus bill becomes law, a breakdown of amounts due to veterans in Oregon included, in Coos County, $615,155; Curry County, $70,615; and Douglas County, $416,223. The clocks of Sandringham House, in England, which had been half an hour fast since the reign of Edward VII, were set at the right time by the order of his grandson, Edward VIII.

€ 41 years ago (Jan. 21, 1965, The World) - Holiday House in Charleston was granted a Dispenser A license by the Oregon Liquor Control Commission for the sale of all liquors on the premises. The Port of Coos Bay Commission ordered a sweep of the bay to clear away drifting debris that washed down from the adjacent rivers and streams emptying into Coos Bay, mostly caused by recent floods.
